Monroe Gazette, December 31, 1891

Aitch, Dec. 28

Christmas seemed to be a very dull day about our little hamlet. Everything was quiet and undisturbed; not a sound could be heard that sounded anything like Christmas. The hunters began to desert in the morning, retiring to the different peaks hoping to witness a fox chase; but from some cause, not starting any fox, they returned in the evening, badly disappointed. All the enjoyments had during the day was a little game of baseball in the afternoon. As Christmas comes but once a year it should be the liveliest day of the year.

Misses Amanda Crum, Maggie Penn, Alice Ullom, Albertine Crum, Emma Edgar, Lillie Crum and Mr. S. D. Crum, all of Antioch, visited our school last Monday.

William Hawkins of Locust Ridge is seriously sick at present.

Frank Shrieve of Ramage, Belmont county, is spending a few days with friends here.

Nelson Thomas who went to St. Claresville a few weeks ago has returned home but will go back in about two months.

Wilbert Davidson has returned from up the river.

Alanson Martin, who has been in Iowa for the past year, returned home last week.

Arrangements are being made for a match game of baseball between a nine of this place and the Oak Grove team, to be played next Friday afternoon.

John Moose leaves today for Ramage, Belmont County.
