At the democratic township convention held here Saturday the following persons were nominated: Trustee, Samuel Clegg; treasurer, T. McCurdy; assessor, W. A. Agin; Constable, John Conger.

O.M. Baker, who was visiting relatives and friends at this place, returned to Murphytown, W.Va., where he is engaged in work.

Mrs. James Stephens, and son J. R. Stephens left Tuesday for an extended visit to relatives at St. Mary's W. Va.

A number of our young folks attended the entertainment given at Fairfax Friday evening and a report a good time.

William Straight, who is a tWheeling undergoing treatment for an injured eye, is reported to be improving.

A. F. Workman, one of our blacksmiths, has moved to his farm near Benwood.

G. W. Dudley, a traveling salesman, was on our streets one day last week.

G. G. McCurdy, closed a five months term of school at Laurel Run Friday.

C. O. Workman visited the county-seat Saturday.

It has been announced that Rev. Wilkison will preach in the Presbyterian church at this place next Sabbath, July 23, at 10:30; also in the evening at 7 o'clock.

The people of this place were very much shocked on learning of the death of John Clegg of Round Bottom. Our sympathies are with the bereaved ones.

Messrs. Joseph Hickenbottom, William Sayers and Miss Mary Hickenbottom of near Boston City spent Sunday with A. W. Gallaher of this place.

G. B. McCurdy, who was at Pittsburg last week undergoing treatment for catarrh of the head, returned Saturday much improved.

J. G. Devaul was at Jackson Ridge the latter part of last week leasing land in the interest of the Fisher Oil company. Several New Castle people contemplate attending the picnic which is to be held in the Fraley grove Saturday.

William Henthorn and family of England W. Va., visited his sites Mrs. Lewis Saffle last week.

A. W. Gallaher has taken the contract of erecting a granary for George Roth of near Cranes Nest. Those on the sick list are Miss Alice Devaul, Mrs. Alice McKelvey and Mrs. Simon Fisher.

J.M. Stephens and O. J. McCurdy were business callers at Clarington one day this week.

Mrs. G. F. McCurdy and son Frank of Buckhill visited relatives at this place last week.

Miss Emma Straight of Benwood visited relatives at this place one day last week.

George Coplan is suffering with paralysis of the face, resulting from neuralgia.

V. M. Baker and family are temporarily living on their farm near Agins.

The recent rain came opportunely, as everything was in much need of it.

V. C. Mehl, who was reported on the sick list, has almost recuperated.

M. D. Starkey of Altitute visited relatives at this place Monday.

M. G> Gallaher called on New Castle friends last week.
