WELLS - I am researching the Wells family of Virginia/ Ohio/ Iowa/ California c. 1850. They include: James C. Wells ss Actious dau Nancy B. James and Actious are my ggggrandparents. I have traced them through Linn County, Iowa where they owned a farm c. 1860 on to Freemont Township, Saleno County, California in 1866 when they executed a power of attorney naming their son-in-law, Jacob Tisher, to handle their Iowa real estate holdings. In the 1850 census for Ohio Twp., Monroe County, Ohio, Jacob and Nancy B. are shown residing there with two children. The oldest being 5 yrs which suggests Jacob and Nancy married before 1845. They were not in the 1860 census for Monroe County suggesting they an her parents had emigrated to Iowa in the 1850s. In the 1850 Census, Nancy was shown being born in Virginia. My guess is that it was in Ohio County across the river from where they lived in Monroe County, Ohio.
