BECKETT, FERRELL, DUVALL, HYDE, LANTZ, FOX - I am a descendent of John Beckett (~1770 – 1850) of Virginia who moved with his family to Ohio in about 1811. They first settled in Warren Township, Jefferson County, but moved to Belmont County before 1820 and lived in Goshen Township until about 1832, when they moved to Green Township, Monroe County. His first wife, Hannah died in about 1836 and he remarried to Rachel Fowler in 1837. His family by his first wife consisted of at least: Mary (born 1803, married Jeptha Duvall and lived in Monroe County); William (born 1807, married Margaret Gosset and lived in Noble County; my ancestor); Isaac (born 1809, married Nancy Wilkenson and moved to Illinois); George (born 1812, married Margaret Clingan and lived in Guernsey County); Margaret (born 1815, married Robert Hyde and lived in Guernsey County); and, Elizabeth (born 1817, married Thomas Ferrell and lived in Monroe County). I suspect that there were at least two other children from the first marriage, but I have not been able to identify them. There were three children by his second marriage: Elijah (born 1839, died in Civil War); Wesley (born 1842, married Deliah Lantz and lived in Monroe County; Sarah (born 1843, married Matthias Fox and lived in Monroe County) I have collected a lot of information about these and other Beckett families in the Belmont, Jefferson, Noble, Monroe, Morgan and Washington county areas, which I am willing to share. I am trying to collect together as much Beckett information as I can in preparation to looking for the family in Virginia. Any information would be much appreciated. (6/6/97)
