I am searching for the ancestry of my gr gr grandfather John McDougal. Most of what I know about him comes from his pension papers, having served in the Civil War for WV. During that time he lived in Monroe Co., Ohio, was married to a Mary Jane Andrews in 1856 and one of their daughters was Hannah. He became a resident of the National Military Home in Dayton OH. in July of 1873. I have gone through the historian there for as much information as I could get. I found out he died Jan. 15, 1881 in Columbus Ohio, still a resident of the Military Home. My gr grandmother Cora, was born in 1879 in Shelby County Ohio to John and possibly a second wife Nancy Jane (Baker)Belt. Nancy and John are listed as the parents of Cora. No marriage certificate found yet. John's occupation prior to the military was a Blacksmith as were many McDougals in the Monroe County OH. area. His pension papers say he was born in Franklin County PA.(Mercersburg). Can anyone help? Thanks!

I think I may have tracked my g-g-g-grandfather, Jefferson CUNNINGHAM to Monroe County. He married Sarah DAVIS, who migrated with her father Charles Davis to Noble County in 1812. Jefferson Cunningham shows on the GLO-BLM site as owning patent for land in Noble County in 1837. I found his name on the 1830 Census Index for Monroe Co., Enochs Twp, p. 138. and again in 1840 Index, Enochs Twp, p. 76. I understand Enochs Twp. became part of Noble County after 1851. I can't be sure it is the ssame Jefferson Cunningham who married Sarah Davis. In 1830 Index a David Davis was listed on same page. On 1840 Index a George Davis was listed on same page. Lydia PALMER b 1832 married Joel C. BAKER (b 1833) in 1858 Belmont County.
Lydia is listed in the 1850 census for Sunsberry Twp, Monroe Co, age 13, in the household of John & Margaret PITMAN.
It's possible that Peter & Mary (WINLAND) PALMER are her grandparents. Also possible that John & Sarah (PITTMAN) PALMER are related somehow.
I'm looking for any leads on who Lydia's parents were - it's probable that they died before 1850.
1840 census for Sunsbury Twp, Monroe Co lists John PALMER, age 20-30, next to Peter PALMER, age 50-60. 1850 census lists Peter but not John.
So I think maybe John was Lydia's father.
I'm also looking for any leads on Joel BAKER's parents. There are a lot of Bakers in Monroe County.
Two Bakers in Sunsbury Twp in 1850 - Perry BAKER, age 25, and Mshack BAKER, age 27 - both born in Virginia, old enough to be Joel's brothers.

CLEGG/HOWELL
I am searching for the families of SYDNEY HOWELL, (b.1846, d. 1896) and THOMAS JACKSON CLEGG (1838-1885). The
Howell family was from Ohio and was believed to have owned a (horse) race
track. We know that Thomas died in Monroe County Ohio. It appears that there was a census entry (1880 Green Twp., Monroe County, p.480D) relating to Thomas J. Clegg, however, I don't have access to the census records.
We don't know if Sydney died in Monroe County. .
We have absolutely no other info on the Howells. This has been a complete
dead end for us for 25 years. If anyone can offer any assistance, I would
be most grateful.
