Lloyd F. Seifer, age 76, of Canton, died Friday (28 Mar 2003) in his home surrounded by his family after a brief illness. Born in Woodsfield, OH, he had lived in Canton most of his life. He retired in 1973 from the Timken Co. after 30 years of service. He served as a major in the Stark Country Sheriff's Auxiliary from 1960-1973. He then served as a Lt. Commander with the Sheriff until 1985. From 1986-2003 he was the lake patrolman for Lake Cable and held a commission with the Jackson Township Police Dept. Lloyd was a member of Martin Luther Lutheran Church, Canton Lodge No. 60 F. A.M., Scottish Rite Valley of Canton, McKinley Eagles Aerie No. 2370, V.F.W. Post No. 3747 and the Hall of Fame Luncheon Club. He was a World War II Navy Veteran having served in the South Pacific. Survived by his wife, Rhoda Mae Seifer, a daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Terry Allison of Columbus, OH; son and daughter-in-law, Rick Sr. and Jeanie Seifer of Canton; grandson and his wife, Rick Jr. and Cheryl Seifer of Massillon; two great grandchildren, Rick III and Randi Seifer; two sisters, Roxie Carroll of Lexington, KY and Margaret Stofer of Canton and two brother, and a sister-in-law, George Seifer and Chuck and Virginia Seifer all of Canton. Preceded in death by a brother, Gerald Seifer. Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Martin Luther Lutheran Church with Rev. Dr. Larry Houff officiating. Burial will be Sunset Hills Memory Gardens. Friends may call Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Lamiell Funeral Home. Canton Lodge No. 60 F. A.M. will have a service Monday at 6:45 p.m. and the V.F.W. Post 3747 will conduct military graveside service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Lake Cable Association or Mercy Hospice.

Vera Maxine Sothen, 61, of Capon Bridge, W.Va., died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, in Martinsburg, W.Va. Mrs. Sothen was born Aug. 29, 1942, in Alton, W.Va., the daughter of William and Mary Wilfong Sandy. She was a homemaker. She was married to Russell Verle Sothen. Surviving are six children, Russell Sothen and Rebecca Vickers, both of Winchester, Vera Sulser and Tonya Davy, both of Moorefield, W.Va., Kevin Sothen of Augusta, W.Va., and Robert Sothen of Fredericksburg; six brothers, Dorsey Sandy of WOODSFIELD, Ohio, Hoye Sandy of Ohio, Nelson Sandy, Ronald Sandy, and Jerry Sandy, all of Akron, Ohio, and Macil Sandy of Richwood, W.Va.; two sisters, Judy Hinchman of Buckhannon and Shirley Stewart of Ohio; and 11 grandchildren. A son, William Sothen, two brothers, Truman Sandy and Glen Sandy, and two sisters, Wilda Detamore and Wanda Carpenter, are deceased. A graveside service will be 3 p.m. Friday at Rock Springs Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Tomblyn Whitescarver Funeral Home, Buckhannon.
STARKEY, Warren Russel

Funeral services for Warren Russel Starkey, 74, of White Oak Circle, Crossville, who passed away May 24, 1997, were held May 27 at Liberty Baptist Church, with burial in Green Acres Memory Gardens. He was born Aug. 4, 1922, in Woodsfield, Ohio, the son of Russel and Elizabeth Millbough Starkey. Mr. Starkey was a truck driver for Grimeyers Gateway Transit, and a member of Liberty Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Survivors include his wife, Mildred Starkey of Crossville; daughter, Janet L. Olson of Crossville; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters Margaret Dalyrmple, Carol Alloway and Wilma Jean Cline, all of Woodsfield, Ohio, and Alverna Campbell of Acworth, Ga.; and brothers Charles Brown of Olathe, Kan., Kenneth Brown of Creston, Ohio, and Cecil Brown of Woodsfield, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his father, Russel Starkey; mother, Elizabeth Brown; step-father, Clyde Brown; sister, Bernice Brown; and brothers Chester and Roy Brown. Pallbearers were Phillip Coudriet, Phill Coudriet, Mark Coudriet, Jan Olson III, Tracy Graham and John K. Hines Jr. The Rev. Billy Smith officiated. Bilbrey Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
STEIGER, Rosa

Mrs. Rosa Steiger, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Benedict Krebs, was born September 29, 1843, in Switzerland Township, Monroe County, Ohio, and lived in that vicinity all her life. In early life she became a member of the German Baptist Church and lived a devout christian life until she passed to her reward March 9, 1917. On December 28, 1862, she was united in marriage to John U. Steiger, who preceeded her in death May 14, 1906. She leaves to mourn her loss nine children, twenty grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The funeral sevices were held at the house at 1p.m. March 12, 1917, conducted by Rev. Joe Ingold of Sardis and assisted by Rev. Fred Thomas, of near New Martinsville, W.Va. Interment in the home burying ground.

BEALLSVILLE - Helen B. Stine, 95, of Township Road 80, Beallsville, died Thursday (Jan. 1, 2004) at the Monroe County Care Center in Woodsfield. She was born March 28, 1908, in Benwood, W.Va., to Peter and Anna Mathew Barton. She was a retired employee of the former LGAM Sewing Factory in Woodsfield. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Stine, in 1985; one son, Paul W. Stine; one granddaughter, Adele Ross; one great-granddaughter, Bailey Norris; her parents; two brothers, Michael Barton and Joseph Barton; and three sisters, Sylvia McBride, Rosalie Barton and Mildred Daniels. She is survived by two daughters, Katherine Bilyeu and Dorothy Burkhart, both of Beallsville; three sisters, Kay Shurko and Margaret Cook, both of Niles, Ohio, and Caroline Douglas of New Athens, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. Private services are at 1 p.m. Saturday at Bauer-Turner Funeral Home at 100 S. Paul St., Woodsfield, with Pastor Joe Hise officiating. Burial is in the Jerusalem Cemetery in Jerusalem, Ohio.
