Posted: 5 Apr 1998
Seeking additional info on the CLAUS and GEHRING families in Malaga/Miltonsburg area: I have Adolph CLAUS married to Emma GEHRING on 26 Dec 1876, but no further info on Emma's parents. Adolph, Emma, & their son Louic C. are living with Adolph's father & stepmother (Nicholas & Rosina CLAUS) in the 1880 census. Going back to 1870, a teenage Emma was already living with the Nicholas CLAUS family, but her name was "Emma GEARING." Why would she be living with them then? No parents are listed, nor is there any info in that census as to how she was 'related' to the head of the household. Also, I am confused with Rosina FRITCHIE, Nicholas' 2nd wife. She is living with Adolph & Emma in the 1900 Census and is referenced as as Adolph's "Mother-In-Law instead of as his stepmother or mother. By the way, Adolph's real mother (as far as I can tell so far) was Catherine REIMENSCHNEIDER (though in the 1870 census her name is listed as Christina--another mystery). One last issue is that Adolph is referred to as Adolph CLAUS, JR. on the 1876 marriage certificate--how can that be when his father's name was Nicholas? Any & all info appreciated.

KISOR
Posted: 16 May 1998
I've been researching the KISOR/KEYSOR families of Woodsfield and know of a Paul Raymond KAISER who lived in Barberton and was buried in Oaklawn. Since I have his ancestors back to Moses KEYSOR and Margaret BISHOP.
Special Note:
I recently saw a message from Chuck Kiser on the KISOR family but my message to his e mail address bounced back. I'd be happy if someone could provide me with the address of Chuck Kiser, in case these families are the same.
(Please notify me, too. -Kim)

SPRING, Samuel S. (1861-1916), John & Magdalena LEHMAN SPRING. Looking for info/shirt-tail relatives/any available info on former Monroe County resident, Samuel S. SPRING and/or his parents, John & Magdalena LEHMAN SPRING. Samuel's obituary (Aug.1916) states he died at the home of Rosina STEIGER, his mother-in-law, and that he was a longtime resident of Monroe County before moving to Pittsburgh. Samuel was born in Staffordsburg, Switzerland on 4/13/1861 and, according to obit was 12 or 13 when the family emigrated to the U.S. Samuel is my great-grandfather and was married twice. His 2nd wife was Carolyn STEIGER, whose family owned a large farm in Clarington, OH. My paternal grandmother was the only child of his first marriage, which ended in divorce, and I am attempting to determine the identity of her mother. It is possible her name was MUSSELMAN, but that is a guess. Any assistance or info on the history of the Spring family will be sincerely and gratefully appreciated.

I'm trying to connect my gr gr grandfather David Tiner (Tyner) of 1840 Tuscarawas Cty with the David Tiner family living in 1840 Monroe Cty, Sunberry Twp. In addition, there was a spelling change in 1850 and the Monroe Cty Tiners became the "Teners". This same spelling appears in subsequent US Census reports. My gr gr grandfather changed his name to "Tyner" when he left Tuscarawas for Wood County in the early 1840's. Does anyone have any other info on these folks?
